November 2010
In this issue . . .
Mainstream is delighted to have acquired the rights to 30 Something and The Clock Is Ticking by Kasey Edwards, bestselling author of 30 Something and Over It. Ambivalent about motherhood and in a fledgling relationship, in this book Kasey confronts the baby issue. Written in the first-person, the narrative follows her journey as she explores what it would mean to be a mother, (what she would gain, what she would lose and what she would regret), and then discovers that conceiving isn't as easy as her sex education teacher had led her to believe. The style is accessible and humorous, but the content addresses serious issues including: the cultural contradictions of motherhood, gender inequality in parenting, becoming a single mother by choice with donor sperm, the grief of infertility and indignity of IVF, and the importance of women actively addressing the baby issue, regardless of their decision, before it's too late.
Reminiscent of The Girlfriend's Guide To Pregnancy except several steps earlier and factoring in IVF. Rights have already been sold to Random House Australia. Her previous book was sold to Random House Australia, Arena in Holland, Nemo in Finland and Luebbe in Germany. For further information contact fiona.brownlee@mainstreampublishing.com

Fantastic coverage for Coronation Street star Bill Roache's book, 50 Years on The Street: My Life with Ken Barlow, including ITV1's Alan Titchmarsh Show, and interviews in the News of the World, The People and women's weekly magazine Best.
Rave reviews also for two of our lead sports titles, True Storey and Bring Me the Head of Trevor Brooking, both receiving 5-star reviews in the current issue of FourFourTwo magazine. And praise also for True Storey from none other than football legend John Motson, who said, 'if you want a really entertaining book, read Peter Storey's autobiography.' High praise indeed!

We are extremely sorry to announce the death of Philip Carlo, bestselling author of The Iceman, The Butcher, Gaspipe, The Night Stalker and most recently The Killer Within in which his focus changed from studying killers to the disease which was slowly killing him. He will be much missed but his legacy lives on, three of his four True Crime books have been optioned with Mickey Rourke tipped to play the lead role in one of them. Our thoughts are with the friends and family he leaves behind.
