In this issue . . .
Mainstream is delighted to have acquired the rights to Shadowland, a page-turning chronicle of an elaborate Mafia plan to 'invade' Europe using 1960s London as a bridgehead. The tension in this real-life narrative is ferocious as the tale moves from London to New York and Las Vegas, down to Miami, into Havana, then on to the Bahamas and back to an unexpected denouement in London. Brutal, terrifying and intrigue packed, it is a Machiavellian account of the Mob's global manipulation of governments and officials.
Author, Douglas Thompson, was a newspaper correspondent based in LA for 20 years and has impeccable credentials. In this book he has persuaded key figures who wouldn't talk before for fear of reprisals to go on the record regarding their association with the Mafia and first hand experience of the Mafia conspiracy to take over gambling in London and throughout Europe. Bill Campbell bought the book from Curtis Brown UK. It will be published in September and is on submission at the moment so if you would like to see the unedited manuscript please contact fiona.brownlee@mainstreampublishing.com as soon as possible.
Offers are on the table for Film and TV rights for Sugar Daddy Diaries (published in the UK in April) and for The Ghost Runner (published in July).
Bella magazine have bought the rights to an exclusive interview with Laura Walsh, author of Ashamed.
Great initial reviews for Carol Ann Lee's WITNESS, in the News of the World and the Manchester Evening News, who said, 'If you thought nothing more could possibly be written about the harrowing Moors Murders, you were wrong. David Smith was there and his story is both chilling and sad.' David Smith's harrowing account was also the lead story on BBC Look North and on the BBC News website on Monday.
Further to the Bella interview confirmed for Laura Walsh, author of ASHAMED, The Sunday Times Style magazine will also be running an interview with Laura's daughter.
More great coverage for the paperback of John Hartson's PLEASE DON'T GO, with an interview on TalkSport's Andy Gray and Richard Keys Show already aired, and another on BBC Radio 2's Simon Mayo Show still to come. There was also excellent broadcast and print coverage in Scotland following John's Glasgow signings.
To mark the paperback publication of William Roache's 50 YEARS ON THE STREET, William will be a guest on BBC Radio 2's Weekend Wogan on Sunday 3 July. An interview with BBC Radio 2's Steve Wright has also been scheduled for later in the month.
Coverage has been confirmed for Bill Jones' THE GHOST RUNNER in bestselling magazine, Runner's World. They sell almost 100,000 copies per month, with a readership of around three times that number.
Fantastic news on the upcoming title, IF I SHOULD DIE BEFORE I WAKE, with interviews confirmed in the Daily Record and Scottish Woman magazine.
And a great review also for 100 CLASSIC COASTAL WALKS IN SCOTLAND, with the Daily Record calling it, 'an invaluable accessory to the boots and the backpack.'

All were sad to see designer Emily MacKenzie (nee Bland) leave Mainstream but delighted that she continues to work freelance and that Kate McLelland who departed to do a post grad design course (for which she was nominated for a D&AD Award) has come back in house for the summer.
