True Crime News June 2006
I hope that you enjoyed our first True Crime newsletter. We had a great response to it so I hope that you will be equally enthusiastic about our second one.
Our mention of THE DAMAGE DONE obviously reignited interest in that true crime classic as it has entered our True Crime bestseller list at No.4
The list is headed by THE BIRD THAT NEVER FLEW, a book with a sub title so long that it barely fits on the web site – The Uncompromising Autobiography of one of the Most Punished Prisoners in the History of the British Penal System. Described as a ‘ compelling, often shocking, and uncompromisingly honest account of how the human spirit can survive almost crushing odds’ it is the autiobiography of Johnny Steele who grew up in the slums of Glasow’s East End and has spent most of his adult life in prison.
TRUE CRIME TOP TEN – JUNE 2006
1. THE BIRD THAT NEVER FLEW
2. ALIVE AND KICKING
3. CUT-THROAT
4. THE DAMAGE DONE
5. NATURAL BORN FIGHTERS
6. ON THE COBBLES
7. TARMAC WARRIOR
8. LONE BRIT ON 13
9. CRIMELORD
10. DRUGLORD
Graham Johnson is at No.10 with DRUGLORD and we genuinely believe that he is one of the UK’s leading True Crime authors. He already has one bestseller, POWDER WARS, under his belt and you should look out for FOOTBALL AND GANGSTERS, How Organised Crime Controls the Beautiful Game (August) and THE NAZI ASSASSIN, The Double Life of Britain’s Most Feared Gangland Hitman, which are coming later this year.
Also just published is UNDER AND ALONE, The True Story of the Undercover Agent Who Infiltrated America’s Most Violent Outlaw Motorcyle Gang by William Queen. It has had terrific reviews and Mel Gibson has already bought film rights, as predicted by Publishers Weekly who said ‘the strength and white-hot intensity of the writing make this read like a movie, and Hollywood is certain to take note.
