Books From Scotland News March 2006

Thank you for subscribing to Mainstream Publishing's Books From Scotland newsletter.

Cut-ThroatCUT-THROAT, exploring the murder riddle of the MI5 grass, Rod McLean is at the top spot in our on line bestseller list. Written by his nephew, Wayne Thallon, CUT-THROAT is not the sort of tartan and shortbread Scottish book which will appeal to ex pat Scots but it does reflect how well True Crime books sell on home turf.

Donald DewarDONALD DEWAR compiled by MSP Wendy Alexander is deservedly at No.2 in the bestseller list. It was launched at the Scottish Parliament in September where Roy Hattersley and other prominent politicians shared amusing anecdotes about Scotland's first First Minister.

Jim TelferJim Telfer was probably the most high profile author on our Scottish on-line bestseller list. The former Scottish rugby coach signed books at numerous bookshops and at Murrayfield though had he done a signing at Scotland's victorious game against England in 2006 he may have found Scottish rugby fans even more enthusiastic about the game! You Can Call Me StanStill on sport, one author resident in Scotland who did tremendously well through traditional outlets but didn't sell well on line is Stilyan Petrov, Celtic's answer to David Beckham, who was in great demand at public appearances pre Christmas for his book YOU CAN CALL ME STAN.

I'm glad to be able to report that we do have two traditional Scottish books on our on line bestseller list. THE SCOTCH WHISKY DIRECTORY by Pip Hills will be a practical companion for whisky lovers everywhere and SCOTTISH EXODUS traces Scottish emigrants who have ended up all over the world.
