The
passion of the Spurs fans prevails as Martin Cloake and Adam Powley's WE
ARE TOTTENHAM retains its position at the top. With Chelsea winning
the Premiership and Arsenal taking the FA Cup it may not be long before
we see the likes of CHELSEA - 100 Year History and ARSENAL
- All for 1 re-entering the Top Ten. We Are Tottenham puts Spurs
supporters at the centre of the tale of a dramatic season at White Hart
Lane, one in which fans' hero Glenn Hoddle was axed after only six games
and the club faced a fight for its reputation. In doing so, the book exposes
the myth of the 'average football fan', providing a compelling account
of the joy, frustration and absurdity of following a Premiership club.
As usual the book leading our Top Ten is available with £1 off with
free p&p within the UK for Mainstream on-line customers.
Our current Top Ten is football heavy but new books from a variety of sports have received some rave reviews this season.
'Strange
that there has never been a Hollywood epic about one of the most remarkable
heavyweight champions: the German paratrooper who defied Hitler by helping
the Jews, who knocked out Joe Louis, was made to scream in agony in their
return match and subsequently befriended and bailed out the ageing, ailing
Brown Bomber by paying his medical bills. Instead, the contrasting lives,
bitter rivalry and latter-day friendship of Schmeling and Louis have been
absorbingly chronicled in the newly published 'Ring of Hate', sensitively
written by Patrick Myler.'
Independent on Sunday
NUMBER 1 in THE INDEPENDENT'S Top Ten Sports Books.
'Some sporting events go beyond hyperbole. For that reason it's useful
to have a grounded and sober account of what took place, which Patrick
Myler provides in 'Ring of Hate'. He offers a concise and well-researched
run throughtheir careers, the two fights, and their subsequent friendship,
drawing out the ways in which the realities of the contest, and the two
protagonists, failed to match what they were taken to represent.'
The Daily Telegraph
BOOK OF THE WEEK 'Who is the greatest snooker player
of them all? And what criteria would you employ to choose that No. 1 man?
This entertaining read attempts to answer both questions.
The Sunday Times
BOOK OF THE WEEK 'Timely, well-meaning and thought-provoking
are allarguable descriptions of this guide to the 20 players who have won
snooker's world championship'
The Independent
'It may betheir first book, but it is commendably thorough, offering some
off-the-wall oddments, like Liam Gallagher's tribute to Alex Higgins, alongside
all the obvious and necessary stuff.'
The Daily Telegraph
GRAND
SLAM! Year of the Dragon
No.8 in THE TIMES Top Ten Sports Books.
'Wales' feat in completing their first Grand Slam for almost three decades
was prettyimpressive, but the production of this book within four weeks
of that achievement comes a close second...Paul Rees has produced an exemplar
for all future publications which attempt to mark a major event of achievement
for posterity. This is not some blinkered version of the latest chapter
in Welshrugby union history. On the contrary, this takes in everything
that has gone on over the previous 27 years since the last Grand Slam;
he analyses, dissects, debates, discusses... this is undeniably a quality
product, superbly constructed, written and presented.'
The Independent
'Grand Slam! Year of the Dragon' by Paul Rees, was the fifth bestselling
sports book,attracting 674 new fans.'
