As one of the originators of the True Crime genre Mainstream is delighted to see that our publishing partners, Random House, are instigating e-books and have asked us to focus particularly on True Crime. Before too long you may well be downloading entire books from here rather than buying the hard copies from our web site!

Mainstream continues to have great success in the area of True Crime. Bestsellers last year included THE ICE MAN, a fascinating insight into the gruesome double life of a mafia hit man and RONNIE’S LOOKING FOR TROUBLE, the memoir of an undercover cop who at one point had been forced to pose as a paedophile in order to expose a paedophile ring. RONNIE has been submitted for the CWA (Crime Writer’s Association) Golden Dagger Award and the results will tie in with publication of the book in mass market format in July. We have bought a second book by the author of THE ICE MAN, Philip Carlo, which we hope will emulate it’s success when it is published later this year.

Our big book for Spring 08 is URBAN SMUGGLER by Andrew Pritchard. It was launched on 27 March with a glitzy party at London’s fashionable Shoreditch House and accompanied by a marketing campaign including fly posters, Facebook and YouTube. Pritchard has already been the subject of a Donal McIntyre documentary entitled COCAINE AND COCONUTS, which followed him from his arrest for smuggling the UK’s largest ever haul of cocaine to his acquittal. Ever the entrepreneur he is using the experience to his advantage, with a game and film also called URBAN SMUGGLER in the pipeline. Cocaine or coconuts? Read the book and decide for yourself!
