Sports News July 2004

In Search of TigerThank you for subscribing to our Mainstream Sport newsletter. News this quarter:

The Daily Mail recently reported that 'IN SEARCH OF TIGER is proving a goldmine in ways the author could not have foreseen. His prize for being shortlisted for last year's William Hill Sports Book of the Year award was a free £850 bet. He decided to blow the lot on a double: Sean Penn to win an Oscar for best male actor in Mystic River and Phil Athens to AthensMickelson to win the Masters. The success of these two meant a £50,000 windfall for Callahan.' The William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award have just announced that Waterstones will host this years ceremony at their flagship store in Piccadilly instead of Sportspages on Charing Cross Rd who have hosted the event for the last fifteen years. Mainstream's hot contender for this years prize is ATHENS TO ATHENS, the massive tome by David Miller which was published to great critical acclaim last Christmas.

Up and OverOther books which have received rave recently include UP AND OVER: A TREK THROUGH RUGBY LEAGUE LAND by Dave Hadfield and ON MY KNEES by Sunday Times rugby correspondent and former William Hill winner, Stephen Jones.
