New Acquisition:

War ChildMainstream is delighted to have acquired world rights to WAR CHILD by Juliet Lac. It is a dramatic, harrowing and inspirational story by one of the Vietnamese 'boat people'. Lac describes herself first and foremost as a survivor of war, repression, neglect, loss, domestic violence and racism. In July 1978 Juliet and her mother left war- ravaged Vietnam and travelled in an overcrowded boat to Malaysia. During the precarious voyage, 200 of their fellow refugees drowned when the boat was hit by a terrible storm. But their flight to the West did not have a fairy-tale ending and in the coming years they faced a struggle to integrate into society first in America and later in France. Comparable to Loung Ung's, AFTER THEY KILLED OUR FATHER, it is a moving first person account of what it is like to be uprooted from everything you know and forced to survive in an alien culture, not just once but twice. Ailsa Bathgate bought world rights direct from the author. An edited manuscript is now available. It will be published in January. PUBLICITY:

With Martha Long's MA, HE SOLD ME FOR A FEW CIGARETTES and Colm Keane's PADRE PIO both in the Irish bestseller lists, it's no surprise that Irish publicity for these titles has been huge. After blanket coverage in the daily and Sunday press and national radio interviews including RTE's Pat Kenny show and Newstalk, Martha this week rounded-off the campaign with an appearance on TV3's Ireland AM, which went brilliantly. In the UK, Martha has done a host of regional radio interviews and on 3rd December BBC Radio Scotland will air their 'Turning Point' programme with Martha, a half-hour interview on a major changing point in her life.

After serialisation in the Irish Daily Mail and the Irish Catholic, coverage for Colm Keane's PADRE PIO has also been impressive, including RTE television news and both the Pat Kenny and Gerry Ryan shows on RTE.

And the Irish success goes on. Oisin McConville, author of THE GAMBLER, appeared on The Late Late Show last Friday, on Sports Tonight (TV3) on Monday, on Ireland AM this morning and is confirmed for RTE1's Seioge & O'Shea show tomorrow. National radio interviews include Newstalk's Off the Ball, Today FM's The Last Word and 2FM's Sunday Sports Bag.

Christy BrownGeorgina Louise Hambleton, author of CHRISTY BROWN: The Life that Inspired My Left Foot, is also extremely busy this week, with interviews on Ireland AM, RTE1's Pat Kenny show, Newstalk's Sean Moncrieff show, BBC Radio Ulster Arts Extra, and press coverage going through the roof. As well as interviews in the Irish Independent and Sunday Tribune, news coverage this week has also been massive, with stories on Tuesday in The Times, the Daily Telegraph, Irish Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and Evening Herald. In the UK, a four-page piece will run on Saturday 17 November in The Scotsman Magazine, a whole day of BBC radio interviews is confirmed for Monday 12 November, and reviews are already confirmed in the Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times. And there will be plenty more!

Ripley's WorldBack in the UK and the publicity campaign for Andy Ripley's RIPLEY'S WORLD has also been flying. As well as interviews in the Sunday Telegraph and on the Guardian Unlimited, and Scottish interview in The Herald, Andy has also been doing a huge number of broadcast interviews, including Sky News' Sunday Live with Adam Boulton, BBC Radio London's The Late Show, and an entire day of BBC GNS interviews at television centre. And the campaign's not over yet. On Friday Andy will be a guest on BBC Radio Five Live's Simon Mayo show and on 22 November he will appear again on BBC Radio London's The Scrum. RIPLEY'S WORLD is also Rugby World magazine's 'Book of the Month' in their December issue, in shops now.

TormentedCongratulations also to Andy McLaren and Mark Guidi, authors of TORMENTED: The Andy McLaren Story, who had a fantastic run of publicity on publication back in October. The brilliant coverage included interviews on the Guardian Unlimited and Sun Online sites, an interview on BBC Radio Five Live's Eamonn Holmes programme, another on BBC Radio London and one on BBC Radio Scotland's Off the Ball - to name but a few. Following a press conference in Glasgow, news coverage was also spectacular, with pieces the following day in the Daily Telegraph, Daily Express, the Sun, the Daily Mail, the Daily Record, The Herald and the Glasgow Evening Times, and broadcast coverage on BBC Reporting Scotland, Sky Sports and Setanta Sports. The following weekend also produced coverage in The Sunday Times, News of the World, Scotland on Sunday, Sunday Herald and Sunday Mail. All this came on the back of a huge 2-week serialisation in the Sunday Mail.
