New Acquisition:

Britain's Everyday HeroesAfter finalising the deal at the end of May, Mainstream is delighted to be publishing BRITAIN'S EVERYDAY HEROES by the new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown on 24 July. In it he argues that the good society is dependent not on exceptional people doing extraordinary things occasionally but on all of us doing ordinary things thoughtfully day after day. From volunteering to ethical purchasing, from charitable giving to reducing waste and recylding, the willing commitment of millions in the UK shapes our world and changes lives 24/7. In his book Gordon Brown, tells the stories of 33 everyday heroes – ordinary people whose willing commitement to a cause or a community has informed and inspired him. The stories tell of a real Britain neither flawless nor broken down but caring, innovative, passionate and determined.

'I want to tell the stories of these men and women not to show how unique they are but quite the opposite – for I imagine 60 million eerday heroes in Britain today, each making a difference in the world. In telling the stories of just a few individuals whose stories have touched me in recent years, I hope to enlarge our sense of the possible and help us to recognise the willing commitment so many of us make, day after day.'
Gordon Brown

Royalties from the sale of the book will go to the charity Community Links who are hosting a press conference on Tuesday 24 July at a central London location.
