Mainstream is delighted to have acquired world rights to MAN INTERRUPTED by Jim Bailey, the true story of one man's experiences as a sufferer of severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The manuscript has already received praise from no less than Mel Brooks who writes:

'I love James Bailey's book. Right from the first page, I was riveted by his compelling honest account of that intense part of his life. Jim is a real old fashioned dyed-in-the-wool storyteller. The book is fraught with wonderfully unique encounters, a lot of pain, a lot of humour and a lot of soul-satisfying truth. I read it in one sitting and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.'

Among Bailey's many compulsions were a fear of germs and a physical aversion to drug addicts. After a period of desperately trying to cope with his illness, he eventually found himself in Boston's McLean Hospital, the most famous psychiatric hospital in the world. The myriad methods of treatment included trips to Harvard Square to meet and greet the homeless and the drug addicts that gathered there. However, while working on his existing disorders at Harvard Square, he developed yet another obsession: this time for Asian women. This, together with the fact that he was housed with around 20 other mental patients, meant that Jim's condition did not improve as quickly as expected. He was eventually discharged from McLean's and as he embarked upon his new OCD-free life, he began to write the story of his experiences.

MAN INTERRUPTED is the thought-provoking account of Jim Bailey's unique and often hilarious journey. Bill Campbell acquired world rights for Mainstream from Patrick Hughes of the Tri-Hughes Entertainment Group in Los Angeles. It will be one of our lead titles at the London Book Fair.
