HatelandAs Holocaust Memorial Day marks 60 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz, Mainstream is proud to announce publication in April of HATELAND by Bernard O'Mahoney. In the book Mahoney describes his gradual transition from contemporary Nazi thug to Nazi opponent. It marks his public renunciation of the hate-filled world he left behind and the racist misfit he once was. Gradually disillusioned and ashamed, O'Mahoney's decisive break with his Nazi past came when he infiltrated and exposed the obsessively secretive British chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. He also describes how he created a 'honey trap' for Nazi nailbomber David Copeland by pretending to be a 20-year-old blonde called Patsy and entering a passionate correspondence in which Copeland revealed his disturbed background, crackpot beliefs and most intimate feelings. The letters were used at the nailbomber's Old Bailey trial and helped secure a life sentence for Copeland. Bernard O'Mahoney is the author of several true crime books including ESSEX BOYS, which coincided with the film of the same name and became a UK bestseller. Features are already confirmed in leading men's magazines. World rights are available. For further information contact Fiona.brownlee@mainstreampublishing.com

The Ferris ConspiracyAnother Mainstream true crime book that looks set to make it on to celluloid is THE FERRIS CONSPIRACY by Paul Ferris and Reg McKay. Ferris, who was jailed for gun-running eight years ago, was back in Glasgow last week to meet actor Robert Carlyle (TRAINSPOTTING, FULL MONTY) who is expected to play him in the movie. With Robert Carlyle in talks, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels producer Robert Vaughn having expressed interest, it seems the film will be made. A budget of £12m has already been tabled which would make it the biggest Scottish produced film ever.

The Barnsley WhaleCongratulations to Steve Deput, author of THE BARNSLEY WHALE, who has won BBC History magazine's 'Hidden Histories' competition. The prize is feature coverage in BBC History magazine and TV coverage on the History Channel. The show will be televised on 4th February at 8.55am and 1.55pm and will be repeated every fourth day.

Publicity for Spring titles is gathering pace. Magazine features are already confirmed for HATELAND, ALIVE AND KICKING, SAUDI BABYLON, NO ONE TAKES MY CHILDREN and KATHY'S STORY and numerous serial deals are under negotiation. The Sunday People have just bought an extract from PLAYING AWAY.

And Finally...

Goodbye to Vikki Reilly who left Mainstream last week. We wish her luck with her new job at Mercat Press. She will be replaced by Louise Williamson, who joins us on Monday 31st January as Sales Administration Assistant reporting to Sales Administration Manager Elaine Scott. Her biggest challenge in the first few weeks will possibly be keeping Elaine calm in the run up to her wedding on February 19th!
