Mainstream have just acquired world rights for HIGH STAKES by Nigel Goldman. It is the memoir of a compulsive gambler whose gambling covered not only horse racing and casinos but also the world's Stock and Futures Exchanges and the secretive world of Gold Bullion trading. Goldman loved taking risks and enjoyed breaking the rules. It is a book about greed but also about chances and opportunities in life. It provides an insight into a little known twilight world of insider trading, horse racing, gambling, high life, low life, prison and life on the run. The Great EscapersExcitement is mounting about the anniversary of the Great Escape on 23rd March. A leading national newspaper has bought extract rights to THE GREAT ESCAPERS, the Imperial War Museum are hosting a launch and a TV documentary will be screened on Channel 4.

John Charles: Gentle GiantInternational footballing legend John Charles died last week at the age of 72. A new biography, JOHN CHARLES: GENTLE GIANT by Mario Risoli is now available in Mainstream Sport.

 

Scotland FirstNews about Henry McLeish's book SCOTLAND FIRST, has dominated the media this week. Coverage hasn't been limited to the Scottish press. The Independent ran a news story featuring the book jacket and reviews are confirmed in the Sunday Times and The Guardian.

Shang a LangAnother author in the press this week is former Bay City Rollers lead singer Les McKeown with news that he wants to sue the band's former record company over claims of missing millions. He is considering legal action against Arista records. The Scots band sold 300 million records but McKeown claims they were kept in the dark over money.

A documentary to be screened on Channel 4 in April will show him on the hunt for the cash.
