One
of the most popular books at Frankfurt this year was a new acquisition
for Spring 2005, SHELL SHOCK by Ian Cummins and
John Beasant. It strips away Shell's carefully woven web of secrecy
and deceit and lays bare its record of defying governments, mobilising
private armies and polluting whole areas of the earth. Oil and
its by-product, petrol are commodities which touch all our lives,
yet little is known about the very secret world of Shell. In January
of 2004, a stunned world learned that by a deliberate sleight of
hand, the Company had inflated its oil reserves by 20%, or 30.9
billion barrels. Post-publication, Shell will be seen in a very
different light. Ian Cummins is a former employee of Shell. John
Beasant worked within government in the Middle East. World rights
are available.

Autumn titles which proved very popular at Frankfurt this year include DANCING IN THE SEA, INDIAN PETER and TERROR TRACKER. All US reading copies have been mailed out and offers are required by mid-November. Titles which have already been announced, KATHY'S STORY and LONDONER'S LARDER, also received a very good reception.
Neil Doyle, author of TERROR TRACKER, has just been interviewed for a five- minute slot on the Kudlow and Cramer show on CNBC to be broadcast on Monday 18th October. The book remains as poignant as the day we commissioned it. According to reports on Al-Jazeera, a Bin Laden deputy recently called for attacks on US and British interests everywhere. In addition to the US and Britain, al-Zawahri singled out Australia, France, Poland, Norway, South Korea and Japan, saying they had all participated in occupying Afghanistan or Iraq or Chechnya and gave Israel "means of survival".
At
home THE REAL FOOTBALLERS WIVES will appear in
The Times on 19 October in Alison Kervin's weekly column. The Financial
Times mentioned the book last week.
Dave
Mackay, author of THE REAL MACKAY, continues to
be in demand. He is being interview by The Observer and The Evening
Standard on Tuesday, 12 October.
He will also be interviewed on Talksport, Hawksbee and Jacobs Show, 12 October 1:30-2:00.
The
long awaited and carefully orchestrated campaign for FLESH
AND BLOOD by Diane Blood has just kicked off with a first
extract and interview in The Sunday Times.
One publisher who will definitely not be bidding for SHELL SHOCK is Sandy Grant of Hardie Grant, Australia. As Rights Director Fiona Brownlee launched into her pitch about 'the evil face of Shell' he silenced her by commenting that his father (a charming man by all accounts) had been MD of Shell Australia!
