THE
KING AND I is looking set to become a big title for
this Christmas. With serialisation in two leading national papers
and an interview in another, Herbert Breslin is going to become
a household name. He even merited a mention in Popbitch last
week! Publication is strictly embargoed to tie in with the US
publication on October 28th. We have also just heard that it
has been selected for the prestigious BA / PN Xmas catalogue
which will ensure that the publicity is backed up by books on
shelves.
WITH
FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES by Malcolm Slesser which received
such great reviews when it was published earlier this year has
just been shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker Award. The winner
will be announced at the Alpine Club (London) 12:00 on 8 October.
The author has also been invited to be a guest at the Kendal
Mountain Festival in November. World rights are available.
MR
NASTY by Cameron White comes out in paperback in November
coinciding with a BBC 2 documentary about drugs for which he is
one of the main contributors. It is being filmed this week and
will be screened later this Autumn. Rights have been sold to North
America and Australia where it is doing extremely well but the
rest of the world is still available.
GANGSTERS
AND GOODFELLAS by Henry Hill, the man who inspired the
film GOODFELLAS, has just been sold to a national newspaper as
has COLOURS by Henry McDonald. More details
to follow.
Copies of THE REAL MACKAY have just come in and with them one of the most glowing pre-publication quotes I have ever read:
'The incomparable achievements of Hearts, Spurs and Derby County legend Dave Mackay has guaranteed a subject matter, so rich in passion, leadership and success, to render this book deserving of the phrase 'unputdownable'. The insightful observations of ghost writer Martin Knight have ensured that Dave Mackay's formidable portfolio of first class achievement enjoys the very best handling and Mr Knight has an envious skill of recreating the atmospheres of 1950's Edinburgh, 1960's London and 1970's Midlands. This is a book which Dave Mackay's contemporaries will enjoy as much as subsequent generations keen on understanding a little bit more about the heartbeat behind their respective club's halcyon days.'

The Edinburgh International Book Festival is drawing to an end and a big thank you to all the authors who attended. It has been a tremendously successful Festival this year in spite of the tempestuous weather. Although some of our authors performed to sell out audiences special mention has to go to Geoffrey Regan for what was undoubtedly the most controversial event of the Festival. A referee might have been more appropriate than a chair person!
Welcome back to Sharon Atherton who has battled through her first week post-maternity leave in spite of not having access to a computer! Her laptop should be up and running soon and for future reference her new e-mail address is Sharon.laptop@mainstreampublishing.com
