Mainstream
is delighted to be publishing the second volume of memoirs by well
known alternative health practitioner Jan de Vries. In his first
volume Jan described his traumatic childhood growing up in Nazi-occupied
Holland but in the second, FIFTY YEARS FIGHTING,
he concentrates on his move from traditional pharmacy to alternative
health. The book focuses on his lengthy fight for the recognition
of alternative medicine. It details how he was threatened with
imprisonment in his early career and describes some of the methods
he has used with remarkable results. World rights are available.

The Edinburgh Festival looks as if it may get off to a rather wet start. After fantastic sunshine last weekend the whole week has been decidedly damp but we hope it brightens up for the five Mainstream authors - Nick Ryan, Geoffrey Regan, Jane Ridder-Patrick, Irshad Manji and Carolyn Soutar - who are appearing there next week.
And Finally... A huge thank you and a very sad goodbye to Lianne Harvey who after five years with the company is leaving to have her second child. She has worked very closely with me to establish the web site and the newsletter and has been indispensable in dealing with all our overseas publishers. I'm sure you will all join me in wishing her well in the future and welcoming Karen Brodie into the hot seat.
