Mainstream
is delighted to have acquired rights to GANGSTERS AND GOODFELLAS by
Henry Hill. Agented by Abner Stein it is being published by M.
Evans in the US. Henry Hill's first memoir became the blockbuster
movie GOODFELLAS and in this second book he describes how he fails
to live under the witness protection scheme, went to prison on
drugs charges, testified in high-profile, heavily guarded mafia
trials and eventually ended up in the entertainment business. It
will be published in October.
Mainstream
also recently acquired 1001 NIGHTS WITHOUT SEX from
Warner in the US. We have already sold extract rights to a leading
monthly women's magazine and have offers on the table for first
serial rights from two national newspapers. It will be published
in September.
Another
US buy-in which is going down well with the British media is THE
KING AND I, a biography of Pavarotti by his former manager
Herbert Breslin which will be published simultaneously in the US
by Random House on October 27th. First and second serial rights
have been sold to national broadsheets and a day's worth of pre-recorded
interviews have already been lined up for Herbert when he visits
the UK in September.
First
and second serial rights to FLESH AND BLOOD by
Diane Blood have now been sold to two leading broadsheets. A packed
PR schedule including an interview with Richard and Judy is already
firming up for publication on October 28th.
Tom
Callahan, author of IN SEARCH OF TIGER is in the
UK at the moment for The Open and to promote his second book
DANCING
WITH SONNY LISTON, Up Close and Personal with the Greatest
Names in Sport. This week he conducted a full day of BBC interviews
in London and revealed to the Daily Mail that IN SEARCH OF TIGER
'is proving a goldmine in ways the author could not have foreseen.
His prize for being shortlisted for last year's William Hill Sports
Book of the Year award was a free £850 bet. He decided to
blow the lot on a double: Sean Penn to win an Oscar for best male
actor in Mystic River and Phil Mickelson to win the Masters. The
success of these two meant a £50,000 windfall for Callahan.'
One
sport title which will be catching the eyes of sports editors everywhere
is IRELAND'S SOCCER TOP TWENTY by Colm Keane.
The book includes exclusive interviews with Roy Keane and Damian
Duff. Roy Keane hasn't been interviewed since his bust up with
management during the last World Cup and Chelsea star Damian Duff
rarely gives interviews at all. Publication at the end of September
ties in with a radio series on RTE.
Best wishes to Cameron White, author of Mr Nasty, who has been in a motorbike accident and is now laid up unable to walk. We wish him a speedy recovery.
