Mainstream
are delighted to have acquired the rights to AMONGST THE
MARINES by Steven Preece. It is a revelation about what
goes on in the armed forces and is particularly topical in the
light of the recent alleged events within British and American
armed forces in Iraq. It is an intimate exposé of the culture
of the Marines, from foul practical jokes and rough justice to
the off-duty orgies of drink, sex and violence. It is a no-holds-barred
account of the many shocking incidents Preece witnessed and participated
in, from his first day as a new recruit to his exit from the Marines
with his reputation intact and his scores settled once and for
all. Preece makes no claims to be a military historian, he merely
describes life as he experienced it in the marines. AMONGST THE
MARINES will appeal to people who are appalled by macho tales of
violence and want to understand such behaviour as much as those
who are entertained by it. Mainstream have world rights and will
publish in September 2004. For further information contact fiona.brownlee@mainstreampublishing.com
The
Daily Mail recently ran an early extract from TERROR TRACKER by
Neil Doyle. It made front page headlines and resulted in numerous
calls from TV and radio eager to follow it up including the BBC,
NBC, CBC, ABC. Fox News, France 1 and France 2
As ever men's magazines are enthusiastic about Mainstream (or should that be Manstream?!) titles. POWDER WARS will be reviewed in Maxim (July), HOMELAND will be in Front (August) and MR NASTY will be in Arena, Jack and FHM. MR NASTY was recently reviewed in the weekly men's magazine Zoo which gave it five stars and described it as 'one Mr Men book that's strictly for adults'. The BBC have had a meeting with author Cameron White to discuss a documentary based on the book and a major player in the film industry has expressed interest in film rights. Harper Collins will publish in Australia and Greystone in North America but translation rights are still available. For further information contact fiona.brownlee@mainstreampublishing.com

The Autumn Sales Conference was a great success. Thanks to all authors who attended or provided videos to promote their titles to the reps. The day concluded with a late night trawl around Edinburgh's hostelries bravely led by Ailsa Bathgate who was rebuffing the attentions of a certain famous actor at the same time.
