News 21 March 2003
MASTERMINDS
OF TERROR has now been sold to Rocher in France. They will
publish in Autumn 2003 coinciding with the trial of one of the 'masterminds'
Ramzi Binalsihibh. The deal was handled by Michelle Lapautre who we
are delighted has agreed to be Mainstream's new French agent.
This
week has been taken up with the London Book Fair. Mainstream
were represented by Peter MacKenzie on the Scottish Publishers Stand
and Fiona Brownlee in the International Rights Centre. On the strength
of a superb extract in the Sunday Telegraph we had an enormous amount
of interest in BAGHDAD'S SPY. Other books which had a
large amount of international interest were HITLER'S BASTARD, FRIENDLY
FIRE, THE LOOKED AFTER KID and HOMELAND.

 In
a completely different vein SHANG A LANG, the autobiography
of Les McKeown from the Bay City Rollers had people quite literally singing
in the aisles. Following her success selling SATURDAY NIGHT FOREVER:
THE STORY OF DISCO at Frankfurt by demonstrating the Latin hustle
Fiona pulled out the stops and sang Shang a Lang with an encore of Bye
Bye Baby for any publishers who didn't immediately remember the tartan
clad Rollers. It will be published in Autumn 2003.
Correction
to last weeks information about IN SEARCH OF TIGER.
Author Tom Callahan will in fact be visiting for a PR tour of the UK
from 14th-19th April.
We
will all be looking at the Oscars this weekend when CATCH ME
IF YOU CAN will get another burst of publicity. Christopher
Walken is shortlisted for Actor in a Supporting Role (for which he won
a BAFTA) and the movie is also up for best music score.
And Finally...
Special mention must go to Doris Engelke of Eichborn Verlag in Germany
whose partner Rolf will be donning his black tie and attending the Oscars
this weekend. He is up for an award for a documentary film. Sadly the
invitation didn't extend to two so we will not see her gliding up the
red carpet!
