NEW
ACQUISITION: THE BARNSLEY WHALE by Steve Deput is a cross
between ROUND IRELAND WITH A FRIDGE by Tony Hawks (Ebury / Griffin
USA) and ARE YOU DAVE GORMAN? (Ebury). Steve Deput believed that as
a child he had seen a Blue Whale - a real Blue whale - in the provincial
town of Barnsley: on a lorry. The Blue Whale is the largest creature
to have ever lived on the planet. Very few people have seen one in
its deep ocean habitat. So how could he have seen one in a small northern
town that's 70 miles from the coast and is more famous for mines, black
puddings, flat caps and whippets? No one believed him. Not even his
mother and father. Deput has devoted the last three years to finding
people like him who remember seeing a Blue Whale. Eventually he established
that a 65ft 70 ton Blue Whale really did tour France, Denmark, Belgium,
Holland, Switzerland and Britain for 20 years. THE BARNSLEY WHALE charts
his desperate hunt for whale believers. The search still goes on. Deput
claims that hundreds of thousands of people like him did see the whale
but have never spoken about it for fear of ridicule. THE BARNSLEY WHALE
is the proof they have been waiting for!
