NEW LEAD TITLES
THE
SPY'S DAUGHTER is an unusual exposé of the life of
a spy in that it is told from the perspective of his daughter. It reveals
the effect her fathers unusual career had on family life and the difficulty
of concealing it from other people. It also describes how they tried
to recruit her reminiscent of the TV series Alias which is now on the
UK having been a huge success in the States.
WHITE GOLD is a gripping story about the UK's largest
drugs haul. It tells the tale of a simple fisherman from the Highlands
of Scotland who inadvertently got caught up in an international drugs
smuggling operation. He was given a 25 year sentence but was released
in 11. Eugene Costello writes an account of what happened in the February
issue of FHM magazine with full credit to his forthcoming book.
FILM
TIE-IN
Frank Abagnale, author of the book behind the film CATCH ME
IF YOU CAN, is flying over from the US for the première.
He plays a cameo role in the film, ironically as one of the officers
who arrested him. Leonardo di Caprio plays Frank Abagnale.

LEAD SPORTS TITLES
SHOOT magazine has given A DROP OF CLARET four stars
out of five in their January edition and it has lead position in the
review section.
Our
Spring list features three strong contenders for this years William Hill
Sports Book of the Year Award. THREE STRIDES BEFORE THE WIRE by
Elizabeth Mitchell received the following accolade from Tom Wolfe:
'THREE STRIDES remains a strong contender with SEABISCUIT down the
backstretch'
It was first published by Hyperion in the US.
IN
SEARCH OF TIGER by Tom Callahan is a unique golfing story
that began in the living room of Tiger Woods' home in California. The
author discovered that Tiger Woods was named after a missing soldier
called Tiger Phong with whom Woods Snr had served in Vietnam. He decided
to undertake a search for the missing soldier and in doing so gained
access to one of the most famous (and famously inaccessible) young
men in the world. The result? The rarest kind of Tiger Woods book:
one with Tiger Woods in it. It will be published by Crown in the US.
Finally
another literary sports book on this seasons list is another golf book. A
SEASON IN DORNOCH is a beautifully written portrait of the Scottish
Highlands, its history and the people who live there by avid golfer Lorne
Rubenstein. It features a foreword by fellow golfer Sean Connery in which
he says 'A SEASON IN DORNOCH rewarded me with many pleasant memories
and images of one of golf's distinctive places.'
And Finally...
FRAMED author
Tod Volpe continues to generate publicity for his book. Last week saw
him doing a TATLER photo shoot with celebrated fashion photographer Roxanne
Lowitt. The five hour shoot included a series of dramatic scenes in front
of the Guggenheim, in and out of a stretch limo with works of art.
