News 29 March 2002

NEWS

The death of the Queen Mother has resulted in numerous press articles about the history of the Royal family. The articles probably won't be relating the less flattering stories about the Royals which are going to be revealed in THE WAR OF THE WINDSORS when it is published by Mainstream in Autumn 2002. The book gives a different version of the abdication crisis in 1936, claiming that despite the Queen Mother's much publicised declarations that the last thing that she and her husband desired was the crown, Elizabeth and her family were privately intent on his accession and her own as Queen Consort.

FOR ALL THOSE LEFT BEHIND is already getting press interest with the announcement that author John Andrews will be beginning a fortnightly column for The Idler web site. His first column, entitled CASTAWAY, appeared on Friday 29th March.

The recruitment advertisement on our web site resulted in numerous applications for the positions of editor and editorial co ordinator. Jess Thompson leaves on Friday and is going to be a hard act to follow. She has excelled herself, bullying and cajoling authors in to delivering on time and supplying the rest of us with up to the minute information about forthcoming books. We wish her luck at Elsevier and look forward to announcing her replacement.
