GENERAL LIST - BEST SELLING BOOK FROM MAINSTREAM
JIHAD! The Secret War in Afghanistan was published in paperback on 17th September. In the aftermath of the terrorist strikes in America and the
focus of the world on Afghanistan it seems to be helping people to understand
the current situation and the book sold out within the first week. A reprint
has just come in. The author, Tom Carew, has been interviewed by
media throughout the world ranging from Fuji TV in Japan and ABC in Australia
to CNN in the US and of course the BBC in the UK. An interview in the
Guardian was sold to the Sunday Times and has since been syndicated to
La Stampa in Italy. He has also been employed by the Daily Mail to write
1-2 articles per week about the Afghanistan situation.
The hardback is distributed by Trafalgar Square in the USA. Several US
publishers are bidding for paperback rights at the moment. Jihad! Is also
published by Pan Macmillan in Australia, Elmar in Holland, Lademann in
Denmark and Kniha-Slovansky dum in the Czech Republic. German rights have
just been sold to Scherz Verlag for publication pre-Christmas. Our agents
in Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Japan are auctioning the book in
their territories. For further information contact webenquiries@mainstreampublishing.com
ENLIGHTENMENT
AND THE DEATH OF MICHAEL MOUSE by Howard Baker is also set
in Afghanistan. A novel, it is based on the author's own experiences of
travelling through Europe and Asia in the late sixties. He vividly describes
countries like Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan which are no longer on the
travellers trail and describes the landscape, the people and their culture.

Allan
Starkie was on one of the last flights to fly from New York to London
on Tuesday 11th September. He was travelling to the UK to promote
his biography of the Duchess of Yorks former assistant Jane Andrews, A
Date with Death. His interview on 'This Morning' would have been cancelled
were it not for the fact that Starkie had worked in the Pentagon and was
able to provide an insight into events in Washington from an insiders
perspective. His interview about the book ran the following day and the
extract which was to have run in the Daily Mail that week was p ublished
on 25th September.
